Enrollment Support Services

Airport Pick-Up Services
First-time arriving students at the International University of Barbados (IUB) – School of Medicine will be offered airport pickup services. On arrival, students will be welcomed by current members of the Student Government Association (SGA) and a coordinator from the Office of Student Services.

Accommodation
Student housing will be pre-arranged before the student arrives on the island. The Student Services Office will work closely with incoming students to assist with their housing selection and placement.

Grocery Shopping Assistance
Upon arrival, students will be taken to a local grocery store for initial shopping. Time will be provided for students to purchase essential items needed to settle into their new home.

University Shuttle Services
All IUB students are eligible for daily university transportation at a cost of $160 per semester. The shuttle provides pickup and drop-off services between student residences and campus.


Orientation & Registration

A mandatory New Student Orientation is held at the beginning of every semester. During this time, new students will meet with University Deans, Faculty, Administrative Officers, local banking representatives, and public safety officers. Students' family members are welcome to attend this event.


Communication Services

After settling on the island, students will be taken to a local mobile service provider to choose suitable phone plans. The Student Services Office will also provide SIM cards for purchase for students who need to contact their families upon arrival.


Fire & Safety Services

As part of the orientation program, representatives from the Barbados Police and Fire Departments will brief students on island safety measures and emergency procedures.


Bank Account Services

Student Services will assist students in opening local bank accounts by arranging meetings with banking officers and ensuring all required documentation is provided.


Academic Support Services

Study Tips Seminar
A "How to Study in Medical School" seminar will be organized during Orientation Week, led by IUB professors. These seminars may also be held periodically throughout the academic year.

CPR Training
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training sessions will be organized for all new students before they attend clinical training or patient rounds.

White Coat Ceremony
Students entering the second semester (MS2) of the MD program will participate in the prestigious White Coat Ceremony, where they will recite the Hippocratic Oath and attend a motivational evening with distinguished speakers.

USMLE Preparation Seminar
Organized by the Office of Graduate & Alumni Affairs, this seminar helps MS4–MS5 students prepare for the USMLE Step 1, featuring alumni who have successfully matched into residency programs.

Introduction to Clerkships Seminar
The Office of Clinical Affairs will host seminars titled “What to Expect in Clinical Science” to prepare MS4–MS5 students for their upcoming clinical rotations.

Residency Seminar
A detailed “Step-by-Step Process of the NRMP Residency Match” seminar will be arranged to guide students through successful residency application planning.


Immigration & Housing Support Services

Campus Visa Assistance
The Student Services Office will assist students with visa applications and renewals during their stay in Barbados.

Housing Assistance
As with accommodation arrangements, Student Services will remain available to support students with any housing-related concerns during their studies.


Health Care Support Services

Wellness Counseling Services
Confidential wellness counseling is available for enrolled students. Appointments can be scheduled through the on-campus Student Services Office.

Health Care Assistance Services
Students requiring medical attention will be assisted by a representative from Student Services, including accompaniment to local clinics or hospitals when necessary.

Accident & Emergency Support Services
In the event of any emergency (including weather-related incidents), Student Services will provide support and send alerts via email and text with instructions on how to respond.
