Government Charter and Accreditation
The International University of Barbados (IUB) is chartered and accredited by the Government of Barbados as a comprehensive institution of higher learning with full authority to confer the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health in Barbados have approved the eligibility of IUB graduates to practice medicine within the country.
ECFMG Recognition
IUB is recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). This recognition allows IUB students and graduates to take all three steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), a requirement for practicing medicine in the United States.
World Directory of Medical Schools (WDMS)
IUB is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDMS)—a globally recognized directory developed in partnership by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and FAIMER, with contributions from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the University of Copenhagen. This replaces the former Avicenna and IMED directories.
Barbados Medical & Dental Council
IUB is recognized by the Barbados Medical & Dental Council, which authorizes graduates to pursue licensure and medical practice within the island.

The International University of Barbados is officially registered with the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training in Barbados.

IUB is listed in the Europa World of Learning, an authoritative global database of accredited universities and higher education institutions.
Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)
IUB is a proud member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and is listed in their prestigious university database. It is one of the few medical universities in the Caribbean to be included in this respected network.
Medical Council of Canada (MCC)
IUB is recognized by the Medical Council of Canada. Graduates are eligible to apply for Licensure in Canada and participate in national qualifying examinations.
Medical Council of India (Now NMC)
IUB is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India (formerly the Medical Council of India). Graduates are eligible to sit for the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) to practice medicine in India.
General Medical Council (GMC), United Kingdom
IUB’s medical degree is accepted by the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK. Graduates holding a primary medical qualification from IUB are eligible to apply for the PLAB (Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board) test and for GMC registration, without requiring individual qualification assessment.
Residency Placement Programs

IUB graduates are eligible to apply for the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) in the United States.
