International University of Barbados – School of Medicine
Address: One Welches Welches, St. Thomas BB22025 Barbados
The International University of Barbados (IUB) – School of Medicine was founded with a vision to provide exceptional medical education to aspiring physicians across the globe. Established in response to the growing demand for quality healthcare professionals, IUB aims to empower students with the knowledge, ethics, and compassion required to transform lives and serve communities worldwide.
Inspired by the success and academic heritage of its founding institutions, IUB opened its doors to its first cohort of students with a commitment to delivering student-centered, globally oriented medical education. With an initial focus on a strong foundational curriculum and an emphasis on clinical readiness, the university has steadily expanded its academic departments, faculty expertise, and international collaborations.
At the heart of IUB’s academic philosophy is an innovative, problem-based learning model that integrates clinical experience with case-based instruction, designed to enhance students’ critical thinking and decision-making skills. This approach, supported by an experienced international faculty, continues to shape a new generation of compassionate, competent, and ethical physicians.
The founding leadership, inspired by the dedication of pioneers like Dr. Paul Cherian, who championed the vision of global healthcare excellence, laid the foundation for IUB’s continuing success. Dr. Cherian's legacy of academic innovation and commitment to student success continues to inspire the IUB community as the institution grows to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare sector both locally and internationally.
