Transfer Applicants

The International University of Barbados – School of Medicine (IUB) welcomes students previously enrolled in a WHO-recognized, IMED-listed medical school to apply for admission with advanced standing, provided they meet all the admission requirements for the College of Medicine. Students wishing to apply for transfer may be eligible for advanced standing up to the fourth term of Basic Sciences or the sixth term of Clinical Sciences, depending on their previous academic history.

Important:
Transfer students who were dismissed from their previous medical school are not eligible for admission to IUB.

Transfer Credits Policy

Transfer credit is not automatic. Applicants must not assume that courses taken at other institutions will meet the IUB School of Medicine requirements. Acceptance of transfer credit is subject to verification and approval by the Promotions Committee and the availability of classes. Each transfer student’s application is carefully reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Due to the variability in the academic backgrounds of transfer students, the requirements and deadlines set by the Committee may differ from student to student.

Basic Sciences Transfer Applicants

Transfer students who have completed part of their Basic Sciences coursework will be placed in the appropriate term of the Basic Sciences curriculum at IUB. The level of placement will be determined by the Promotions Committee based on the applicant’s previous academic performance.

Eligibility for MS 5 (Bridge Term)

Students who have completed the Basic Sciences course and achieved a CBSE score above 70 (and meet all other admission requirements) are eligible for admission to the Bridge Term (MS 5). Successful completion of this term certifies students to sit for the USMLE Step 1.

Clinical Sciences Transfer Applicants

Step 1 Requirement:
Students must pass Step 1 of the USMLE before being assigned to Clinical Clerkships at IUB.

Clinical Transfer Applicant Requirements

In addition to the standard application requirements, transfer applicants must submit the following documents:

• Official transcripts from all previous medical schools attended.

• Official USMLE transcripts (if attempted).

• Score reports for all previous CBSE attempts (if attempted).
