Clinical Pathology & Diagnostics Academic Notice:  The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) curriculum is engineered according to modern medical laboratory council standards, training experts in clinical biochemistry, hematology, medical microbiology, histopathology, molecular diagnostics, and hospital laboratory rotations.

Program Overview

The B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) at International University of Barbados is a premier 4-year Allied Health degree (consisting of 6 academic semesters followed by a 1-year clinical hospital internship) designed to produce highly skilled medical laboratory scientists, diagnostic technologists, and clinical pathologists.

Modern medicine relies on accurate laboratory diagnostic testing for disease detection, treatment monitoring, and prevention. Over 70% of medical decisions are based on clinical lab results. Our BMLT program provides comprehensive training in blood banking, automated biochemistry, clinical hematology, histotechnology, and PCR molecular diagnostics.

Students receive intensive practical experience in automated clinical chemistry analyzers, fluorescence microscopes, blood transfusion suites, and microbiology culture laboratories in affiliated hospital pathology departments.

Why Study BMLT at IUB?

At International University of Barbados, our Pathology & Diagnostic Sciences department features automated blood analyzers, real-time PCR suites, blood bank units, and experienced clinical laboratory faculty. Students gain direct clinical lab experience analyzing real patient diagnostic specimens.

International Diagnostic Standards & Accreditation

Our curriculum adheres to international laboratory quality management standards (ISO 15189), empowering graduates to excel in hospital laboratories, diagnostic chains, research institutes, and blood transfusion centers worldwide.
