Advanced Clinical & Biomedical Laboratory Sciences Masters Program Notice: The MSc Medical Laboratory Technology at International University of Barbados is a postgraduate program offering advanced specialization in clinical biochemistry, molecular diagnostics, hematology, immunology, microbiology, histopathology, and clinical genetics. Graduates are trained to lead diagnostic laboratories, conduct independent research, and drive evidence-based improvements in clinical laboratory practice.
Program Overview
The MSc Medical Laboratory Technology at International University of Barbados is a 2-year advanced postgraduate program that builds upon foundational BMLT/BSc training to produce expert clinical laboratory scientists with deep specialization in advanced diagnostic techniques, laboratory management, and biomedical research. The program covers the full spectrum of clinical laboratory disciplines — biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, histopathology, molecular biology, and clinical genetics.
Students gain advanced competence in molecular diagnostics (PCR, NGS), flow cytometry, immunoassay automation, clinical cytogenetics, advanced microbiology including MDRO surveillance, laboratory information systems (LIS), quality management systems (ISO 15189), and clinical audit. The program integrates research methodology and biostatistics for producing independent research dissertations.
Hospital laboratory rotations across clinical biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, blood bank, and histopathology departments ensure comprehensive hands-on advanced clinical training.
